Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 27, 2026
BiteTrack AI ("we", "our", "us") is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains in detail how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you access or use the BiteTrack AI mobile application (the "App"), our website, and any related services (collectively, the "Services"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not access or use our Services.
1. Information We Collect
We collect different types of information depending on how you interact with the App. We have designed BiteTrack AI with a privacy-first approach, meaning we minimize data collection wherever possible.
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
Meal Descriptions: When you type a description of the food you have eaten (e.g., "2 eggs and toast with butter"), this text is transmitted to our AI analysis service to calculate nutritional estimates including calories, protein, carbohydrates, fats, fiber, and sugar. This text is processed in real-time and is not permanently stored on our servers after the analysis is complete.
Daily Goals & Preferences: You may set personal daily calorie goals, preferred language, theme preferences, and other settings within the App. All of this information is stored exclusively on your device.
Support Communications: If you contact us via email for support, we may collect your email address and the content of your message to respond to your inquiry.
1.2 Information Stored Locally on Your Device
Meal History & Nutrition Logs: Your complete meal history, including food descriptions, nutritional breakdowns (calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber, sugar), timestamps, and meal categories (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack) are stored in a local SQLite database on your device. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share it.
Daily Summaries: Aggregated daily nutrition summaries, progress toward goals, and historical trends are computed and stored locally.
App Settings: Language preference, theme mode, notification preferences, and other configuration options are stored locally using device storage.
1.3 Information Collected Automatically
Device Information: We may collect general device information such as device model, operating system version, app version, and screen resolution for the purpose of ensuring compatibility and improving the user experience. This information is collected in an anonymized manner.
Crash & Performance Data: If the App crashes or encounters an error, anonymous crash reports may be generated and sent to help us identify and fix bugs. These reports do not contain personally identifiable information.
Usage Analytics: We may collect anonymized, aggregated usage data such as which features are used most frequently, session duration, and general interaction patterns. This data cannot be used to identify individual users.
1.4 Information We Do NOT Collect
- No Account Required: BiteTrack AI does not require you to create an account, sign up, or log in. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, or any other personal identifiers during normal app usage.
- No Location Data: We do not access, collect, or track your geographic location.
- No Contact Information: We do not access your contacts, address book, or social media profiles.
- No Photos Without Consent: We do not access your camera or photo library unless you explicitly initiate a photo scan feature (coming soon). Even then, images are processed and never stored on our servers.
- No Health App Integration: We do not read from or write to device health services (e.g., Google Fit, Apple Health) unless you explicitly enable such integration in a future version.
2. How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used solely for the purpose of providing, maintaining, and improving the Services. Specifically, we use your information to:
- Provide AI-Powered Nutritional Analysis: Your food descriptions are sent to our AI backend to generate accurate calorie and macro-nutrient estimates. This is the core functionality of the App.
- Display Meal History & Progress: Your locally stored data is used to present your daily meal log, calorie tracking charts, nutritional breakdowns, and progress toward your daily goals.
- Personalize Your Experience: Your saved preferences (language, theme, daily calorie target) are used to customize the App's interface and functionality to your needs.
- Generate Daily Summaries: We compute and display daily nutrition summaries including total calories consumed, macronutrient distribution, and goal completion percentage.
- Improve Our Services: Anonymized and aggregated usage patterns help us understand how users interact with the App, so we can improve features, fix issues, and develop new capabilities.
- Ensure App Stability: Crash reports and performance data help us identify and resolve technical issues quickly.
- Respond to Support Requests: If you contact us, we use your email and message content solely to address your inquiry.
We do not use your information for profiling, automated decision-making, or selling to third parties.
3. How We Share Your Information
We value your privacy and limit sharing of information to only what is necessary for the App to function:
- AI Analysis Providers: When you submit a food description for analysis, the text (and only the text) is sent to our third-party AI service providers (currently Groq and LongCat AI) via secure HTTPS connections. No personally identifiable information, device identifiers, or user metadata is included in these requests. These providers process the data in real-time and do not retain it after the response is generated.
- Advertising Partners: If the free version of the App displays advertisements, our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may collect certain device identifiers (such as advertising ID), general device information, and ad interaction data in accordance with Google's own privacy policy. You can limit ad personalization in your device settings or upgrade to Premium to remove ads entirely.
- App Distribution Platforms: Google Play Services is used for app distribution, updates, and in-app purchases. Google may collect platform-level data as described in their privacy policy.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required to do so by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of BiteTrack AI, our users, or the public.
We do not sell, rent, lease, or trade your personal information to any third party for marketing or commercial purposes.
4. Third-Party Services & SDKs
The App integrates with certain third-party services and software development kits (SDKs). Each third-party service has its own privacy policy governing the data it collects:
- Groq AI API: Processes food description text for nutritional analysis. Groq Privacy Policy
- Google AdMob: Serves advertisements in the free version of the App. Google Privacy Policy
- Google Play Services: Handles in-app purchases, app updates, and licensing. Google Privacy Policy
- Google ML Kit: May be used for on-device text recognition (OCR) in future features. All ML Kit processing occurs locally on your device and no image data is sent to external servers.
- Firebase Crashlytics (if enabled): Collects anonymous crash and performance reports to help improve app stability. Firebase Privacy
We encourage you to review the privacy policies of these third-party services to understand their data collection practices.
5. Data Storage, Retention & Security
5.1 Local Storage
The vast majority of your data is stored exclusively on your device in a local SQLite database. This includes your meal history, nutrition logs, daily summaries, goals, and preferences. We do not have access to this data, and it is not transmitted to our servers. If you uninstall the App or clear its data, this information is permanently deleted.
5.2 Server-Side Processing
When you submit a food description for AI analysis, the text is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our backend server, which forwards it to our AI provider. The AI response (nutritional data) is returned to your device and stored locally. We do not log, store, or retain the text of your food descriptions on our servers after the analysis is complete. Our server acts as a real-time relay and does not maintain a database of user queries.
5.3 Data Retention
- Meal data on device: Retained until you delete it within the App, clear app data, or uninstall the App.
- AI query text: Not retained. Processed in real-time and discarded immediately.
- Crash reports: Retained for up to 90 days for debugging purposes, then automatically deleted.
- Support emails: Retained for as long as necessary to resolve your inquiry, then deleted within 12 months.
5.4 Security Measures
We take the security of your information seriously and implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect it, including:
- All network communications between the App and our servers use TLS/HTTPS encryption.
- Our backend server does not maintain persistent databases of user data.
- API keys and credentials are stored securely and are not exposed to client applications.
- We regularly review our data handling practices and update them as needed.
However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Children's Privacy
BiteTrack AI is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect, solicit, or store personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take immediate steps to delete such information.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided personal information to us, please contact us at support@bitetrackai.com so we can promptly investigate and take appropriate action.
Users between the ages of 13 and 18 should review this Privacy Policy with a parent or guardian to ensure they understand it before using the App.
7. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have certain rights regarding your data. Since BiteTrack AI stores the vast majority of data locally on your device, you have direct control over most of your information:
- Access Your Data: All your meal history, nutrition logs, and settings are accessible directly through the App at any time.
- Delete Your Data: You can delete individual meals from your history within the App. To delete all data, you can clear the App's storage from your device settings or uninstall the App. Since data is stored locally, deletion is immediate and permanent.
- Opt Out of Personalized Ads: You can disable personalized advertising in your device settings (Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalization on Android). Alternatively, upgrade to the Premium version to remove all advertisements.
- Data Portability: Your locally stored data can be accessed through the App. We may offer data export features in future updates.
- Withdraw Consent: You can stop using the App at any time. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
- Restrict Processing: Since AI analysis only occurs when you actively submit a food description, you control when and whether your text is processed.
7.1 Rights Under GDPR (European Economic Area)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object. Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, most of these rights are automatically satisfied by the local-only nature of our data storage. For any GDPR-related inquiries, contact us at support@bitetrackai.com.
7.2 Rights Under CCPA (California)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your personal information, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. For any CCPA-related requests, contact us at support@bitetrackai.com.
8. International Data Transfers
BiteTrack AI is operated globally. When you submit a food description for AI analysis, the text may be processed by servers located in different countries, including the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of this data to servers outside your country of residence, which may have different data protection laws than your jurisdiction.
We ensure that any international data transfers are carried out with appropriate safeguards, including encrypted connections and data minimization practices (i.e., only the food description text is transmitted, with no personal identifiers).
9. Cookies & Tracking Technologies
The BiteTrack AI mobile application does not use cookies. However, our website (bitetrak-ai.pages.dev) may use minimal cookies or similar technologies for basic functionality such as remembering visitor preferences. Third-party services integrated into the App (such as Google AdMob) may use their own tracking technologies as described in their respective privacy policies.
You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings when visiting our website.
10. Push Notifications
BiteTrack AI may send you push notifications to remind you to log meals or provide nutritional tips. You can enable or disable push notifications at any time through your device's notification settings. We do not use push notification tokens for tracking or advertising purposes.
11. Open Source & Transparency
BiteTrack AI is built using open-source technologies including Flutter and SQLite. We are committed to transparency in our data practices and will clearly communicate any changes to how we handle your information.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we make material changes, we will:
- Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
- Notify users through the App or our website if the changes are significant.
- Provide a summary of key changes where appropriate.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information. Your continued use of the App after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
